Bob The Builder - Can He Fix It? Yes He Can!
If you have a child under the age of five, no matter if it's a girl or boy, you probably know about Bob the Builder.
In the late 1990s an artist by the name of Keith Chapman created Bob the Builder. The show originated in the United Kingdom, and was an almost-immediate hit. It airs in the UK on BBC2 and CBeebies. The show came to the United States in 2001, where it again quickly gained popularity and is aired on PBS and PBS KIDS Sprout. Today the show is shown in over 240 countries and territories, with the dialogue translated into 45 languages.
The main characters are Bob the Builder, Wendy, and Bob’s machine friends Scoop, Muck, Dizzy, Roley, and Lofty. Bob wears a checked flannel shirt, blue overalls and a bright-yellow hardhat. He owns his own building company, Bob’s Building Yard, and spends his days building, repairing, or renovating buildings and homes in and around the town where he lives.
Bob - When he isn’t running his building company, Bob is known to belt out a tune or two. In fact, both his theme song “Can We Do It?” and his own special rendition of Lou Bega’s “Mambo #5” actually became chart-toppers in the United Kingdom, in 2000 and in 2001, respectively.
Wendy - Wendy is Bob’s business partner as well as the object of his infatuation. She started out as Bob’s receptionist, but today she can be seen working side by side with Bob on the various construction sites.
Scoop - Scoop is the team leader of Bob’s construction crew. He’s the big yellow digger who’s always willing to lend a hand wherever he’s needed.
Muck - Muck sometimes digs himself into a “hole” lot of trouble and has to have help dumping out his load of problems. His friends are always ready to come to his rescue, though.
Dizzy - Dizzy is the cement mixer. She likes to listen to music all day, through her headphones, of course, so that she doesn’t disturb the others. When she’s not working, she plays games.
Roley - Roley steamrolls his way around the construction sites, usually with his bird friend Bird accompanying him, while Lofty works every day to craning his neck to overcome his fears and reaching new heights.
Each member of Bob’s team has his or her own catchphrase or favorite word. Throughout the workday, Bob will hear Scoop say, “No prob, Bob!” while Muck is calling, “Muck to the Rescue!” Usually, however, it’s Muck that has to be rescued. Dizzy lets everyone know how “Brilliant!” they are, while Roley spurs everyone on by telling them, “Let’s rock and roll!” Not wanting to be left out, Lofty meets each challenge and shows his agreeableness by telling himself and everyone else, “I think so,” whenever he needs to.
